While body aches and pains are usually harmless, it is helpful to understand what causes them and when to seek medical attention. Body aches and pains are easily treatable for most—a few days of rest and hydration can relieve any discomfort. For some, particularly those that last a long time, it can indicate a severe underlying medical condition that may require treatment.

Singapore Paincare TCM Wellness

Patients seeking effective relief from pain can now look forward to the best of both worlds as east meets west at the new Singapore Paincare TCM Wellness clinic located at Marina Square. The clinic seeks to achieve positive outcomes for patients using their own Yin-Yang concept – internal qi regulation (Yin) with the Western medical emphasis on external physical movement (Yang).

The clinic’s treatment regimens are developed by a group of qualified western medical pain care specialists and TCMPB*-certified TCM physicians who have vast clinical experience in treating patients with pain and the ability to integrate both types of intervention for holistic pain management.

*The Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board (TCMPB) is a statutory board established under the Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Act 2000. TCMPB registers TCM practitioners (both acupuncturists and TCM physicians), accredits TCM institutions and TCM courses for the purpose of registration and regulates the professional ethics and conduct of registered TCM practitioners.

Upon entering the clinic, we are greeted with an open and relaxing environment decorated in white and warm tones.

Following registration, we met with Dr Sue as she further assessed by asking a series of questions that will enable her to gain a comprehensive understanding of the pain issues and help determine which treatment would be most beneficial. Additionally, a skin conductance device was used to measure pain level objectively.

Our talent had been experiencing shoulder pain for a long time, so Dr Sue recommended both acupuncture and their signature Qi’Nergy Tuina to treat the tight fascia and ease the pain.

Acupuncture is a widely recognised form of TCM treatment in Singapore, with sterile needles inserted into unique pre-identified acupoints to induce specific sensations known as “得气” (obtaining the qi). These sensations run a whole gamut from heaviness, numbness and soreness to distension and warmth.

During the procedure

  • Needle insertion: Acupuncture needles are inserted to various depths at strategic points on your body. The needles are very thin, so insertion usually causes little discomfort. When a needle reaches the right depth, you may feel a slight aching sensation.
  • Needle manipulation: Once the needles have been placed, the needles are heated and lightly pulsed with electricity.
  • Needle removal: There is usually no discomfort when the needles are removed. In most cases, the needles remain in place for 10 to 20 minutes while you sit/lie still and relax.

Our talent also tried their signature Qi’Nergy Tuina treatment that combines eastern pressure point massage (or “tuina”), which help to promote wellness by incorporating both meridian points and western myofascial release- technique to treat tight fascia tissues and radiofrequency energy to soothe away pain and stiffness, stimulate and detox the body and mind.

Meridian acupoints and myofascial trigger points are applied with broad strokes to remove blockages and soothe the stiff muscles. The Qi’Nergy Tuina massage combines gliding, kneading, rocking, pulling, friction, rolling, and deep finger pressure to relieve tension from the deepest layers of your muscles – making you feel energized, relaxed and pain-free.

Afterwards, radiofrequency energy is applied to accelerate soft tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and improve the healing of the affected areas. The waves create warmth as they penetrate the muscle layer.

At the end of the treatment, our talent felt relaxed and a tremendous relief on the shoulder. It is recommended to continue Qi’Nergy Tuina once or twice a week or as prescribed by their physician to treat the pain further. The number of treatments will depend on the treated condition and its severity. In general, it’s common to receive six to eight treatments.

Additionally, the clinic offers acupuncture, guasha, cupping and herbal medication. Patients may choose from various a-la-carte services or treatment bundles that combine several treatments in a package providing you with the comfort of choice.
