Q: Can you share your personal journey from being a teacher to becoming a jewellery designer? What inspired you to make this bold transition?
Rina Lee: I believe there is a season for everything in one’s life, and my journey as a teacher had served its purpose then, but it no longer felt fulfilling. So it was only natural for me to want to do something else at the next stage of my life’s journey. You could say I was divinely guided to make the change. Jewellery designing was a natural transition because I had always enjoyed working with my hands.
To be honest, I don’t quite know why I chose jewellery as my medium of expression but I suppose I liked the idea of creating something that beautifies and empowers women.
Inner Child Work and Creativity
Q: How did your childhood experiences and the concept of the inner child influence your decision to pursue a career in jewellery design?
Rina Lee: Doing something creative and starting my own business had always been a childhood dream of mine. I enjoyed drawing and painting even as a child and would often tell my elder sister different business ideas when I was in my early teens. But of course, that didn’t happen, and instead, I chose the more conventional career path because it was what would bring the least resistance from my parents. I suppressed my inner desires for so long, and when I finally decided to take that leap of faith to pursue a career in jewellery design, it was nerve-wracking but also very freeing. It felt like I was coming home to who I truly was.
Empowerment and Inspiration
Q: As a successful woman in a creative field, what advice would you give to other women who aspire to break away from conventional career paths and pursue their passions?
Rina Lee: Just do it. Trust me, nobody really knows what they are doing all the time. I certainly didn’t know what I was doing when I started, and still don’t always know what I am doing now. I just learned along the way, take risks, make mistakes and then try again. Take failures as wisdom and experience gained. Nobody gets it right the first time and is instantly good at it—it takes time and patience. Another point is to have strong self-belief—The ability to tune out the naysayers and stay true to your convictions throughout even when times get tough. It helps to surround yourself with people who are positive and would cheer you on too.
Creative Expression and Empowerment
Q: In your opinion, how can jewellery and fashion serve as forms of creative expression and empowerment for individuals?
Rina Lee: When we create something, there has to be meaning and intention behind it; otherwise, it will just be an object. That meaning and intention behind that piece of jewellery are what will resonate with the individual. It is up to the individual to further make meaning to that piece of jewellery; it could also have sentimental value. How we wish to present ourselves to the world is through the choice of our fashion style—be it minimalist, vintage, bohemian, etc. And jewellery is no different—they enhance our personality, can make you feel empowered, feminine, or bold. What you choose to adorn yourself daily, and how you choose to style them, is a form of self-expression and an extension of who you are.

Q: How important is it for women to celebrate their successes and milestones, and what are some ways you recommend they do so?
Rina Lee: I think as women, we sometimes can be too hard on ourselves. We compare ourselves to others and can be our biggest critic. So it is important to stop to reflect on how far we’ve come and celebrate our wins, big and small. By giving back, in whatever shape or form that feels right to you, is one way to attract more abundance into your life. Give, and you shall receive.
Having said that, not only is it important to celebrate our wins, it is equally important to celebrate our failures too. Reflecting on our failures is what shapes and makes our successes even more fruitful!

Q: What is your vision for the future of your brand? Are there any upcoming projects or collections that you are particularly excited about?
Rina Lee: I’m keeping things a secret for now. But I will say I hope to see Rina Lee as a brand that will be recognised for its innovative and inspiring designs.

There is power in keeping a positive mindset. A really quick and simple way to shift your vibration is to look at the situation from a place of gratitude/higher perspective. For example, when you are having a bad day, instead of dwelling in that negative energy, you can mentally list down 5 things that you are grateful for today. This will instantly shift you out of a state of lack, to a more positive one.
